This pen stand design uses wood that has been worked by a lathe or wheel, creating items known as “hikimono” in Japanese. A simple ring added to the top of the stand provides a natural place to put erasers, paper clips, and other small articles. These items are not mass-produced by machine, but are individually crafted with care by turners using traditional techniques.
This project is a collaboration between Momose, a traditional woodturner in Shizuoka, and studio yumakano.
