Creative Director｜Designer｜Material Designer
Born in Tochigi in 1988, Yuma Kano studied Interior Architecture at Tokyo Zokei University under Kenji Oki, where he was influenced by the ideas of Shiro Kuramata. After graduation, he trained under artist Yasuhiro Suzuki as an assistant before founding STUDIO YUMAKANO in 2012, which was incorporated as NOU Inc. in 2023. From a single screw to fragments of the city, branches from the forest, and even human waste, Kano seeks out the hidden potential in all things. Moving fluidly across scales—from macro-level concept-making to micro-level detail verification—he transforms ideas into new value through relentless experimentation and prototyping. His practice transcends disciplines, extending beyond products, interiors, material research, and spatial direction, continually renewing our perception of the world through design.Major awards include the Japan Space Design Award, Good Design Award, Maison&Objet Rising Talents Award, and the German Design Award.
